Jiangzhou Drum Music - The Fighting of Bull with Tiger

Jiangzhou Drum Music is a traditional folk music in Xinjiang County, Shanxi Province of China, listed as the world intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
"The Fighting of Bull with Tiger" is a representative piece of Jiangzhou Drum Music, featuring two large drums on stage, symbolizing the two beasts of the bull and tiger. The music consists of three chapters: meeting, playing, and fighting. Using flexible drumming techniques, the players shows the audience the stubbornness and fierceness of the bull and the mighty and brave of the tiger.

The WJX Percussion Group is lead by Wang Shen and found in 1999. The group had performance the percussion concert tour and TV shows every year around China over 20 years. The playing styles are including classical, modern, Latin, jazz, African, ethnic and other musical elements; The repertoire is also very rich. In addition to the classic percussion works, there are also self created music, which uses hundreds of percussion instruments and plays in different forms. It is one of the most famous and popular percussion Group in China.
Marimba are widely used in music of Asia and west and central Africa. In Latin America, enslaved Africans recreated them in the 16th and 17th centuries. The name marimba stems from Bantu marimba or malimba, 'xylophone'. Diatonic xylophones were introduced to Central America in the 16th or 17th century. The first historical record of Mayan musicians using gourd resonator marimbas in Guatemala was made in 1680. Modern uses of the marimba include solo performances, woodwind and brass ensembles, marimba concertos, jazz ensembles, marching band (front ensembles), drum and bugle corps, indoor percussion ensembles, and orchestral compositions.
